Who’s really voting for Trump? Portraits beyond the polls

Who’s supporting Donald Trump? That’s the question every pundit and politico has been asking ever since he launched his candidacy, ascended to the top of the polls and kicked off the GOP primary battle as we know it. For months, many rank-and-file Republicans admitted that they had no idea who was backing Trump, so Yahoo Politics decided to take Trump’s advice — and “turn the cameras around” to focus on Trump’s supporters. There’s a semi-retired contractor from Royal Oak, Mich., a vehicle maintenance foreman from Virginia and a mother of two from Iowa who’s worried about the nation’s security against terrorists.

We need to stop letting these people in who are not welcomed, who are intruders, who are violating us, who (are) violating our children.

There is a real estate agent from Kiln, Miss., and a public-interest lawyer from Miami, Fla. There’s also Ron Vance, 59, an insurance agent from Pahrump, Nev., a college-educated independent voter who says he voted for Jimmy Carter — twice. And Vance, contrary to some images portrayed in the news, doesn’t seem particularly pissed off. He’s sold on Trump.

Boy, does he say some stupid stuff. But Trump’s not as nutty as everybody thinks he is. He’s just playing the game.
