Why Actor Abraham Attah Wore TOMS Shoes To The Oscars 2016

In his swanky tuxedo, “Beasts Of No Nation” actor Abraham Attah looked as polished as any of the other celebs at the Oscars last night.

But look a little closer and you’ll see that he donned a slightly more casual pair of shoes than the rest of the guests at the black tie event.

The 15-year-old actor opted to ditch the formal footwear that all of the other male stars were sporting and instead rocked a pair of casual slip-ons.

But it wasn’t a case of putting the comfort of his feet first. Instead, Attah chose to wear a pair of TOMS in order to support the charitable fashion brand.

The footwear range is famous for sticking to a “buy a pair, we donate a pair to someone who needs them” policy. But instead of giving away just one pair last night, the shoe brand promised to donate a jaw-dropping 10,000 pairs of their designs to the people of Ghana - where Attah’s heritage lies.

It’s not the first time the teenage star has sported the worthy cause. Attah wore a pair of lace-up TOMS to the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, where he picked up the Best Actor gong.

Since TOMS’ launch in 2006, the for-profit company has expanded to help as many needy people as possible. As well as giving away a pair of shoes to a child in need every time someone buys their own pair, TOMS ensures that mums and babies worldwide have a safe birth every time a bag is bought.

They also help restore the sight of people struggling to see every time a pair of glasses is bought. And we hazard a guess it won’t stop there.
