    Why the Cast of 'Glee' Shouldn't Cover Rebecca Black's 'Friday'

    The cast of "Glee" has certainly had their triumphs. It's the first prime time musical in memory that didn't immediately crash and burn ("Cop Rock," anyone?) and every song that the cast performs has serious hit potential. For one solid month, I couldn't head into my neighborhood coffee shop without hearing their versions of "Bad Romance" and a number of other songs, and although their versions weren't exactly exceptional, they were popular.

    That's why we should all implore the cast of "Glee" to abandon their current plan to cover Rebecca Black's "Friday," for the good of the world.

    Rebecca Black may be the most universally derided performer in history, and her Internet hit "Friday" was only popular for its atrocious lyrics and phoned-in autotuned melody. Black's not at fault; she just wanted to make a fun video with her friends, and she didn't have a great song to sing in the first place. No version of "Friday" could add anything that to the original other than silly irony with the exception of Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert's version, which was smart and satirical in all the right places.

    But the cast of "Glee" doesn't have Colbert's comedic touch. By doing a version of "Friday," they'll risk actually making a hit out of it and turning a funny Internet video into a horrid assault on our eardrums every time that we turn on our radios.

    The humor of the Internet doesn't really work well when it enters real TV. Something's lost in the translation and you end up with a brutal mess of unfunny and embarrassment. Rebecca Black needs to get out of the public spotlight, and we really need to let her do that for a little while (until she releases her EP, of course).

    Ultimately, nobody wants another version of "Friday." One was enough, and two was pushing it. "Glee's" not bringing any chips to the table, and the most that they're going to do is add some neat choreography and make everybody even more tired of "Friday" and its infectious yet terrible chorus.

    The entire country has been making fun of Rebecca Black for a few weeks now, and let's all remember that she's a 14 year old girl. She's been taking it well—apparently, anyways—but she doesn't need more idols lampooning her poor decision to enter Ark Music Factory and pump out an awful video. It's no fun (fun, fun—sorry about that).
