    Why the Taliban is Nervous About Peace Talks

    COMMENTARY | As surprising as it might be to the American public, the U.S. has been engaging in some kind of a dialogue with the Taliban. But it seems the terrorist group wants to hold any kind of talks on its terms. This shouldn't happen because as a group that consistently tries to perpetuate its agenda on the wings of fear, any kind of concession is giving up a great deal of field position to the other side.

    According to CNN, the Taliban wants to talk with American officials to discuss peace talks. What it doesn't want is to have the talks to have involvement by the Afghan government led by Hamid Karzai. This should be enough to send any reasonable leader away from the table as fast as their legs can carry them.

    Perhaps it is because one of the Taliban's main base of operations is in Afghanistan. So a neutral site would probably be the best idea. Although according to the Associated Press, a spokesman for the Afghan government said any talks should be backed by the Afghan government.

    This is a reasonable demand because the Taliban had such a vice grip over that country for so long. The Taliban messed up their country far worse than any occupying army ever could.

    The problem with any peace talks with the Taliban is the thought of if it is sincere. According to Newsweek, the group fears peace talks will splinter the group. Can anyone see why hard-line members of the organization would be upset with this?

    If enough members of the group realize it cannot survive in the world using tactics of fear and intimidation, it will eventually have such small numbers that no terror attacks will emanate from its ranks. So it's not surprising the Taliban would have reservations about participating in anything involving the word peace.
