Why Texas Gov. Rick Perry Could Be the Next President

COMMENTARY | When I first heard about Texas Gov. Rick Perry possibly running for president, I thought "Oh, no, another Texan in the White House." But then I read that he successfully balanced the budget in Texas without raising taxes. I'm sold. Still reeling from this roller coaster ride called the stock market, I am on board if anyone even thinks they can balance America's out-of-control budget.

But will he gain the support of fellow Republicans and win the nomination? Yes, because he is singing the tune Americans want to hear: Keep spending and taxes low. Perry may be the most conservative of all the candidates running at this point, but that's what happens when you have a liberal president whose approval ratings are low. The pendulum turns; Republicans know it and want to capitalize on the momentum.

Perry Could Become a Tea Party Favorite

Watch out, Michele Bachmann. Apparently the Minnesota congresswoman is already strategizing with her staff should Perry become a strong contender, according to The Associated Press. Mitt Romney could also be feeling the pressure. But the two are completely different in terms of experience. While Perry has held public office for the past 27 years and never had a job in the private sector, Romney's platform is based on the fact that he is a successful businessman.

The Texas Governor Created Jobs During a Recession

It's still up in the air how responsible Perry himself is for bringing new jobs to Texas, but the point is he did it. And that will win over a lot of voters. You could say that Texas has a long history of being pro-business, with or without Perry. And Bush campaigned on many of the same ideals. But one thing is clear: Other states cannot boast a balanced budget -- Texas can.

    Perry is Pro-Business

Already syndicated television host Kevin McCullough is predicting the Texas governor will be the next president. And he cites Perry's pro-business stance as one of the reasons. Businesses have flocked to Texas at the expense of other states like California. If he can do it for the Lone Star State, why can't he do it for the United States of America?

Simply being pro-business and anti-big government isn't enough to win the Republican nomination. But Perry seems to have backers in different sectors of the Republican Party. McCullough also predicted Obama would win in 2008. Could he be right this time too?

Now that could be our only HOPE.

Texas; the job state... nuff said... Some replied that the jobs were like fast food or minimum wage jobs... All I can say is that if that's all you are qualified for try finding a purpose in your life and then the work will come in line with your convictions. There is nothing wrong with an entry level job until you find out what you want to do with yourself.

I have a friend that lived in California for 20 years, He made $20 - $25 per hour and was barely making his house payments. He moved to TX and is now making $15 per hour but is still able to live better than he did in California.

I have a friend moved from Oakland California a little over ten years ago. He sold his 1,100 square foot home for 375,000 Dollars and purchased a 4,500 sq foot for under 300,000 brand new in a nice area of town. The pay is what you make of it. There are high paying and low paying, but the living is much cheaper. I have been offered jobs in California making a little more money. I have refused due to living costs.

Libbies crack me up, they are as dumb as a pile of rocks, and the biggest hypocrites on the planet but they are fun to laugh at.

Whoever is next cannot be worse than what we have now. However, whoever is next must make taking Obama to court a priority along with the politicians that enabled him.
      • Barry 9 mths ago
Taking Obama to court would be a laugher. He did a lot of things republicans didn't like but NOTHING illegal. On the other hand, MOST of the republicans probably have.

Yes Texas has created jobs. But they are minimum wage jobs...
      • Dieu-Le-Veut 9 mths ago
Not true. Do some research. Many high tech companies have or are in the process of moving to Texas because Perry went to their CEO's and convinced them Texas would be good for them and to them. And we will.
      • BarryH 9 mths ago
SF means if it is not high paying he wants a GOV HAND OUT!
      • BMC 9 mths ago
SF, wow, just like America these days. everyone thinks they are owed something. a job is a job, go work and make your own money. at least texas understands that

I'm not a Democrat, so no axe grinding here, just setting the record straight. Perry balanced the state budget and did so without touching the 9 billion in the Rainy Day fund. But he did it with Federal Stimulus money, while publicly opposing the very same stimulus actions by the Feds.

A balanced budget great - some of the worst schools in the nation, one of the lowest standard of living in the nation, one of the highests drop out rates of HS, one of the highest in infant mortality ....... balanced at the cost of what
    • D  •  9 mths ago
The author said she's "sold" once she found out Perry balanced Texas's budget without raising taxes. How does that translate into him being president and able to balance the budget? Last time I checked, it takes the President AND CONGRESS to pass budget legislation. I imagine Texas's government is similarly setup with a state legislature that needs to propose and agree to the budget legislation first. Probably with a Republican majority as well making it much easier.

Rick Perry is a bilderberger. That's enough for him not to garner my support.
    • Barry  •  9 mths ago
"But then I read that he successfully balanced the budget in Texas without raising taxes." Te author neglected to note that he used Federal dollars. she also didn't notice that he has had to go to the feds for drought relief and help with the fires burning around the state. Yep he balanced the budget but all he did was spend nothing and got nothing in income so the state is broke.
    • Barry  •  9 mths ago
It is apparent that the author did not do her homework in voicing the reasons for her support for Perry. If she had she would have not written the article. Perhaps she should have done her research

Still, I can not see any candidate strong enough to face this 'big mouth liar" we have in officce now.
I find Cain is the most honest, is the name phe is not known. Sadly, money is the name of the game.
    • lindy  •  9 mths ago
did you know that Rick Perry is worth millions from government checks for the past 25 yrs............he does know what it feels like to lose your home or go without food.........do you read about you politicians?
    • One American  •  9 mths ago
I'm not ready for a prayer rival, even a Texas style one.
    • LBJames  •  9 mths ago
The author obviously doesn't know shit about Texas or how its government works. The Governor of Texas has little if any politcal power or responsibilty -- he is little more than a figurehead. The Texas legislature has all of the power and should get the credit.

Perry received a D in Economics while in college. But at least he went to college, unlike Rush, Hannity and Beck.
