Why The World Hates The Avengers In Captain America: Civil War

There’s been plenty of collateral damage in ‘The Avengers’, ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’, and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’.

The inhabitants of New York City, Sokovia, and Washington D.C., respectively, have had to sit and watch as their cities were destroyed in the above films, and it turns out that at the start of ‘Captain America: Civil War’ the government has had enough.

Anthony and Joe Russo have confirmed that the massive destruction caused by the Avengers throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far leads to the construction of the Sokovia Accords, which is designed to govern the actions of Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, and pals.

Joe Russo explained to Empire Magazine, “It has to do with the effects of ‘Ultron’ and Sokovia and New York City, and Washington D.C.”

“Examining the third acts of all the Marvel movies, we’re saying, if you could point to the collateral damage in all those incidents, could you use that against the Avengers to control them?”

The Sokovia Accords would be different to the Superhero Registration Act, which was used in the 2006 comic-book series of the same name that is sort-of being adapted by the Russo Brothers.

It seems rather harsh on The Avengers that they are being blamed for the above devastations, especially since they were doing all that they could to stop those actually responsible for them.

However, rather obviously, quite a few people died in these events and the image of the Hulk and Iron Man destroying Johannesburg in ‘Age Of Ultron’ was clearly rather damaging for the group’s PR.

The repercussions to this will go on to divide The Avengers to such an extent that ‘Civil War’ sees Iron Man and Captain America forming their own posses and then embarking on a serious case of fisticuffs.

We’ll get to fawn over the results when ‘Captain America: Civil War’ is released on May 6, 2016.
