Apple has long been rumored to be making aneven slimmer version of the MacBook Air, and the notebook could show its face sooner rather than later. The 12-inch MacBook Air will reportedly enter production early in 2015, meaning we might see the laptop launch later in the year.

According to Digitimes, Apple's manufacturing partners have been accelerating their supplies of the new MacBook's necessary components. In accordance with older rumors, Digitimes claims that the notebook will sport Intel's Broadwell processors, a sharper 12-inch Retina display and a fanless design that's even thinner and lighter than the current 0.68-inch-thin, 2.38-pound MacBook Air 11-inch.

Previous rumors suggest that the new MacBook Air could ship in Space Gray, Silver and Gold (much like Apple's iPads and iPhones), and may feature a reversible USB Type C port as well as a new type of MagSafe charging port. These luxuries could come at a cost, as Digitimes claims that the new 12-inch Air will ship in limited quantities for a premium price.

The purported new MacBook Air could enter production at the same time as the Apple Watch, which is rumored to hit stores as soon as February. That seems a bit early in the year for a new Apple notebook, so we're expecting a launch date closer to the Air's typical Spring release window.
