Wife of Eagles Co-Founder Randy Meisner Killed in Accidental Shooting: Police

Lana Rae Meisner, the wife of former Eagles band member Randy Meisner, was killed Sunday in an accidental shooting – 90 minutes after officers responded to a domestic violence call at the couple's Los Angeles home, police say.

Investigators have determined that Lana Rae Meisner was moving a rifle from a storage case inside a closet at about 7 p.m. on Sunday when the gun accidentally discharged and fatally wounded her, according to an LAPD statement.

When officers arrived, Lana Rae was found with a single gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier in the evening, police were called to the home for a domestic violence report about a possibly drunk man. The LAPD said officers took a report about 5:30 p.m. and left.

The Valley Bureau detective personnel and the Los Angeles Coroner's Office have ruled the death accidental, and said the Eagles guitarist Randy, 69, was cooperative throughout the investigation.

Randy Meisner was a member of rock band Poco until 1970 then helped found the Eagles in 1971. He stayed with the band until 1977, penning and singing single "Take It to the Limit" before quitting the group due to exhaustion.

He went on as a solo act, releasing albums including 1978's Randy Meisner and, two years later, One More Song. He briefly reunited with Poco and later joined the Eagles onstage for the group's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
