Wildfire stops at LA suburbs as winds die sown

GLENDORA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say the progress of a wildfire burning in the foothills northeast of Los Angeles has stopped, and the threat to surrounding cities is subsiding.

Los Angeles County fire Deputy Chief John Tripp said at a news conference in Glendora that the fire's growth has been stopped at 1,700 acres. He says some residents will be allowed to return home Thursday night.

The fire is 30 percent contained.

Tripp says five homes have been burned and 17 structures, including some homes, have been damaged.
