Willie Nelson Fights Discrimination – Against Dogs

God bless you Willie Nelson. You are a true humanitarian and speak for the masses. I have a pitbull and recently had to move and there were breed restrictions everywhere. It was horrible to say the least. My dog is harmless. Black Labs bite more people every year than any dog but there isn't, nor should there be, any restrictions against them. Then there's size restrictions of less than 30lbs. Everytime I go to a dog park it's those less than 30lb dogs causing all the trouble. It's the owner not the dog is the bottom line. Go after people like Michael Vick that make pitbulls unwanted and too many in shelters just because of a stigma. So sad because pitbulls make wonderful pets and you can train them so quickly.

Thank you, Willie! Did you know that the idiot cops in Denver KILL anything that looks remotely like a "pit bull?" One resident had both of their pure-bred Boxers shot on their property by Denver cops because a nosy, no-good neighbor called the police to complain that they had "pit bulls!"

My brother in law had a dog that was mean. It was a dachshund! Little bitty thing, but mean! So any dog has the potential to be aggressive or not in accordance of how and the environment it was raised and trained. I do not believe all pits, rots or dobies are mean. Just like some people are.

Willie you go get them and show them that dogs (pits) are better than most people. Treated with love and respect there is none better to have as a friend.

You go Willie! There should not be a law banning any breed. I am soo tired of hearing about oh ban this breed because its soooo vicous. BS! Its the responsibility of the owner to control their dogs at ALL times. And yes, any dog can be mean. Hmm, just like humans huh? Ask around at shelters, vets, animal control officers what they say are more common to bite. I guarantee it will not be pits on the top of the list. And also people and news are quick to say oh they dog that bit so and so is a pit. Did you go look? Did you ask the owners? Do a DNA test? I mean come on, do you always know what each and every breed is by looking at it? Of course not unless you are just that smart you know each and every breed out there. I will be you, my border collie and my hamster are meaner that your pit lol. and they just nip :)

Men are generally more careful of the breed of their dogs and horses than of their children.

Willie Nelson is right. Strengthen laws that target irresponsible dog owners. Dogs only know what they are taught and how they are treated. God Bless Willie Nelson. I wish more famous people would join this cause.

It is very apparent that most that have made comments know nothing about dog breeds and their traits. As someone that does rescue I wish you would educate yourself rather than continuing the diatribe the media has been spouting for years. For example, the pitbull was the dog of choice as a nanny dog at the turn of the last century. They were also dogs used in WW II. It is man that makes any dog into what it is. One more thing, there are other breeds with a stronger bite capacity than the pitbull.

It's not the breed. It's the dog and the owners. Targeting breeds doesn't really address the problem, but it is easier to remove breeds than it is to actually fix the problem, so I can see why it's appealing to politicians eager to take credit for something.

Willie is a great man and is taking the right side on this issue. Their are Pitts as gentle as rabbits, and to lump them all together with the aggressive ones is plain wrong. Yet this dumb state will allow the possession and sale of exotic animals like tigers and bears, but then single out dog breeds for regulation.

You go Willie! I've owned dogs in the past, and most dogs grow up the way the owner treats them. If the owner is mean the dog will also be a biter to anyone who isn't above him in the pecking order. Bad owner create bad dogs. I found that animal respect and kindness goes a long way to making a dogs life easy and happy. Just like children you have to take charge, teach them the rules, and use the reward system with praise and a good pat on the head.

I own a loving wonderful pitbull that was mistreated, it took me 2 years for him to trust me. This dog didn't give up on me and I want give up on him. We have had him for eight years now. He loves children, old people and his mama.
You can make any dog bad because they assume part of their owners personaliy. If you mistreat one they are going to be confused because they want to please you.
And if you do, and you people know who you are, then you should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law
We rescued BOOGER from an animal shelter, and I truly believe he knows he got a second chance......

I agree Willie! I have known many a Pit Bull/PB mix in my life that have all been great dogs. I have also known 2 labs who were very untrustworthy. One of them attacked my dogs when I was out walking them. It's always the owner's responsiblity to train and control their dogs, regardless of the breed. I've always said that there needs to be serious fines for dog owners whose dogs bite or kill other animals or people. SERIOUS fines, if you hit them in the pocketbook... they may just pay more attention to their dogs.

I agree that all dogs are individuals, but sometimes a dog will turn on it's own master for no apparent reason. You need to be mindful of ALL dogs, not just certain breeds.

Adog is a product of its enviroment a friend of mine had a pitbull named Conan and from a pup encouraged everyone that came over to pet and play with him the dog was the best, I had a Rotweiller named Amos that grew up with my three children it would'nt hurt anyone learned to smile at people that came over,if you want a puppy make sure you want the dog that it becomes.

I think there should be stiff penalties with anyone involved in dog fighting. There should be serious felony fines, as well as, exhorbitant financial fines, then, maybe they can be put out of business. Without assured prison sentences, the poor pit bul breed will be forever have a black mark on them despite non-fighting dogs can be great pets.
