Windfinder review

Windfinder finds winds for sailors, surfers, hang gliders, kite flyers, or anyone who just wants to know which way the wind blows.

Pros

Favorites: Set your Favorites to stay on top of conditions at your favorite beach, the local airport, or anywhere in the world.

Units: Windfinder's Settings feature optional units for wind speed, temperature, wave height, air pressure, precipitation, and distances. Display options include wind direction and cloudiness.

Location: Searching for local conditions couldn't be easier: Just tap Near Me, and Windfinder will display a list of available sites providing local wind direction, speed, forecasts, and other weather data. We could search the world country by country or by place name, too.

Cons

Ads: Windsurfer's ads are fairly unobtrusive, but it's too easy to thumb one open when you're out of doors.

More needed: Though an app that tracks winds is a great idea and much needed, Windfinder isn't a substitute for a full-featured weather app with radar and alerts, especially for outdoorsy types.

Bottom Line

Windfinder is a great little app to have on your Android phone or tablet, and it's got a lot of potential uses -- and not just when someone tells you to go fly a kite!
