Windows Phone Marketplace tops 100,000 apps
Microsoft’s Windows Phone has reportedly reached another milestone in its app Marketplace. According to the blog All About Windows Phone, more than 100,000 apps have been published to the Marketplace over the past 20 months since the platform’s launch. The Marketplace is growing at an average rate of 313 apps per day, with more than 26,000 added in the last three months and 9,391 added in the last month from more than 23,000 developers. The Windows Phone Marketplace reached the 100,000 milestone faster than Android, which took 24 months, but slower than iOS, which reached the milestone in 16 months. It took Microsoft’s platform 14 months to reach 50,000 apps, however it only took another five months to double that figure to 100,000. Despite its impressive growth, market research firm ABI Research believes Windows Phone will only account for 2% of all app downloads in 2012.
