WinScp review

WinScp is a lean and mean application for file transfers between PCs. The best thing about this app is that it is completely no nonsense. It provides you with everything you need in order to smoothly transfer files between computers without any bells and whistles that get in the way.

Pros

It just works: Anyone that has done enough file transferring knows that it can be finicky business sometimes. Quite often these types of programs are too complicated for the beginner. Also, when something goes wrong, if you're not extremely technically proficient, it can be difficult to diagnose what happens in a file transfer gone wrong. During testing, we found transfers worked smooth and efficiently.

No overload: Some file transfer programs look like they're designed by experts, for experts. There are endless options and spaces that mean nothing to the layman. WinScp is clean and straightforward, with only what you need laid out so you can start transferring files.

Interface option: When installing the program, the option to select what basic interface you're more comfortable with is a nice added feature.

Cons

Interface selection on setup: While the interface selection on setup is great, it would be even better if there were an easy-to-see way to switch between these modes once the program is already installed.

Bottom Line

This is a program that comes with no surprises. If you're just looking for a way to make an FTP transfer, this handy tool will get the job done in no time. It is also a good program to use for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with file transfers. As long as they have all the information they need to connect to a server, it should be easy enough to understand even for a beginner.
