Woman charged with impaired driving in death of nine-year-old girl
BRIDGEWATER, N.S. - Police have charged a 30-year-old Nova Scotia woman with impaired driving causing death but would not confirm media reports that the woman is the mother of the nine-year-old girl who died in the accident earlier this month.
Media reports say the woman is the mother of Olive Moore, the girl who was killed, but police would not confirm the relationship on Monday except to say the child and the driver knew each other.
The RCMP say Candice Roxanne Moore of Pleasantville is also facing one count of refusing to comply with a demand for a breath sample.
An obituary for Olive lists her mother as Candice Moore.
Police have said Olive was dropped off at a home on Corkum Road in the rural community at around noon on Jan. 19, and she was allegedly hit as she stood in the road as a van left the driveway.
Candice Moore is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater provincial court on March 27.
Olive's obituary says she was a poet who wanted to be a rock star and it included lyrics to a song she wrote.
It says she was energetic and "ran, danced, jumped and cartwheeled her way through this world."
"She was the core of the family, and wanted everyone as close as possible," the obituary says. "She held her own among an abundance of boys in the family, all the while remaining a true, sparkling girl."
It says Olive is survived by her parents and five brothers.
