Woman suffers serious burns in Swanzey vehicle fire

Jul. 13—SWANZEY — A woman suffered burns to her hands in a fire that destroyed a pickup truck in her driveway Tuesday afternoon, Fire Chief Bill Gould said.

"It was a serious burn," Gould said in a phone interview Wednesday morning. "I'm not sure what degree, but it was serious enough to get transported to the hospital."

The 30-year-old woman was taken to Cheshire Medical Center, but neither Gould nor Swanzey Police Chief Joseph Gonsalves had information on her condition Wednesday morning. A hospital spokesperson said the woman was not on the list of people for whom they can publicly share information.

Firefighters responded to the home on South Winchester Street around 4:10 p.m., according to Southwestern N.H. District Fire Mutual Aid. Gould said the woman noticed smoke coming from the front passenger side of the Toyota truck parked in her driveway, and was burned when she tried to open the door.

The blaze consumed the front of the vehicle, which is considered a total loss, Gould said. No one was in the vehicle at the time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Gould said.
