Woody Allen’s 'To Rome with Love' to kick off L.A. Film Festival

Following up Woody Allen's most successful film to date, Midnight in Paris, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, this year the director will open the 16th Los Angeles Film Festival on June 14 with the US debut of his newest comedy, To Rome With Love.

Starring Oscar winners Penélope Cruz and Roberto Begnini, Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Ellen Page (Inception), and Alec Baldwin (It's Complicated), the film, which is written and directed by Allen as usual, also marks his return to the screen after six years -- since 2006's Scoop.

The story follows an ensemble of American and Italian characters visiting and living in Rome in a jumble of romances and misadventures.

To Rome With Love opens in Italy on April 20 after a premiere in Rome on April 13 and releases in the US on June 22.

The Los Angeles Film festival, June 14-24, will screen 200 feature films, shorts and music videos. The program line-up will be announced May 1. Since it started, the festival has focused on independent filmmaking and now attracts more than 92,000 to downtown Los Angeles.

Its signature features include a Filmmaker Retreat, Poolside Chats, outdoor screenings and resident artists, with appearances by acclaimed filmmakers, industry professionals and emerging talent in conversation.
