    'Words With Friends' Creators Quit Zynga

    The bad news keeps coming from Zynga.

    Paul and David Bettner, the brothers behind the hugely popular mobile game Words With Friends game, are leaving Zynga. The brothers confirmed the news to GamesBeat on Friday, but did not offer any details as to why they are leaving or where they are heading to next.

    Zynga acquired Words With Friends back in 2010 as part of its purchase of the game's developer Newtoy. Paul Bettner went on to become the VP and General Manager of Zynga With Friends, a studio that has put out other games like Hanging With Friends and Chess With Friends.

    There have been several other high-profile departures from the company in recent months, including the company's COO John Schappert, who left in August, and chief marketing officer Jeff Karp, who left in September.

    For Zynga, the news of the Bettner brothers leaving couldn't have come at a worse time. On Thursday, Zynga cut its sales outlook for the third quarter due to lower-than-expected demand and revealed that it will take an impairment charge of as much as $95 million for its purchase of OMGPOP. This sent the company's stock spiraling down by as much as 20% in early trading Friday.

    Zynga's stock was trading at $2.36 a share, down about 16% on the day, as of publication.
