WSJ: ‘iPad mini’ launch coming soon

Reuters, Bloomberg both confirm September 12th iPhone event – but where’s the iPad mini?

Following a pair of reports on Tuesday suggesting Apple is prepping a smaller, cheaper iPad tablet that will launch this fall, The Wall Street Journal’s anonymous sources say Apple’s Asian suppliers are planning to begin mass production of the “iPad mini” in September. The new Apple slate will feature a display that measure less than 8 inches diagonally according to the report, and both LG Display and AU Optronics are named among Apple’s suppliers for the upcoming tablet. The Journal also reported earlier this year that Apple was working on an 8-inch tablet, again after a long line of similar reports from Digitimes, analyst Brian White and others suggested the same beginning in late 2011. Apple’s new smaller iPad is expected to cost between $249 and $299 when it launches later this year.
