Xbox 360 receives Family Bundle in white

Special Edition Xbox 360 Family Bundle

Microsoft has announced a white, special edition Xbox 360 Kinect bundle that is being made available in North America immediately.

The bundle includes the 4GB Xbox 360 console, Kinect motion and voice control sensor, wireless controller, and two games (Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures) for $299.

That price is on a par with Sony's most tricked-out portable PlayStation Vita, which offers both 3G and Wi-Fi connections for gaming on the go, and launched February 22 in North and Latin America, European regions, Australasia and Singapore.

The downside is that the 4GB 360 doesn't include a spacious 250GB hard drive that ships as standard with other versions, so there's much less room for storing time-saving game data, digital movies, or the many downloadable gems on the 360's Arcade and Indie Games channels.

The same package will launch in Japan on March 8 for ¥29,800 and is expected in Europe and associated territories at around the same time for €299.

Meanwhile Amazon France has an otherwise unnanounced 10-year anniversary bundle listed for March 9 at the same price.

Microsoft has managed to maintain a $299 price point for its premium 360 bundles since 2009, whereas Sony saw fit to cut the PlayStation 3's price to $249 in August 2011.

Nintendo still holds a price advantage over both, having produced a $149 Wii in April of the same year, then dropping the handheld 3DS to $169 in August.
