According to The Verge, Microsoft will make its Xbox One apps platform available to developers who are interested in creating applications for the console other than games. The changes should take place sometime this summer.

Microsoft has already confirmed its plans to let developers create universal apps that will run on a variety of products, including Windows 10 computers and phones, but also the Xbox One console. Thus, anyone relying on Windows 10 for work or play might find interesting the prospect of running also on the Xbox One some of the apps available on their computers and/or mobile devices.

The company is expected to release an Xbox One SDK and a retail to dev kit switch, which will let developers start working on universal apps as early as this summer. Microsoft plans to switch existing Xbox One apps to universal apps in November, at which point developers will be able to submit apps to Xbox One.
