Not one, but two odd ricin plots emerged involving an Elvis impersonator, a martial arts instructor and an actress. In April, the Taekwondo teacher sent tainted letters to Capitol Hill offices and tried to frame the fake Elvis. 6. After airline crash tragedy, a homophone hoax is read on TV as breaking news

On July 12, Oakland affiliate KTVU TV reported a follow-up piece on the crash of Asiana Flight 214 at San Francisco International Airport. Things went horribly wrong when the station was duped into reporting names — Captain Sum Ting Won, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk and Bang Ding Ow — that were nothing more than verbal plays on racial stereotypes.
