    Yo-Yo Ma, Renee Fleming perform with Chicago choir

    CHICAGO (AP) — El famoso chelista Yo-Yo Ma y la soprano Renee Fleming tuvieron una presentación el lunes con el coro de una secundaria de Chicago para promover la educación artística.

    La presentación fue una colaboración con la iniciativa de Músicos Ciudadanos de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Chicago y la Opera Lirica de Chicago de la iniciativa de Renee Fleming. Ambos programas buscan difundir la música en la comunidad.

    "Para mí un currículo de artes integrado significa que tenemos gente que está en contacto con quienes son por dentro y con lo que pueden recibir del exterior", dijo Ma. "Para mí eso creará la mejor fuerza de trabajo posible".

    Ma y Fleming interpretaron una pieza de Rachmaninoff en la rotonda del edificio del Estado de Illinois, en el centro de Chicago, y contaron con la asistencia del gobernador Pat Quinn. El par encabezó la interpretación de la canción "America the Beautiful", junto con músicos de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Chicago y los estudiantes.

    Previamente en el día Ma y Fleming acudieron a algunas clases en la secundaria de Chicago Lake View High School.

    "Se trata en gran parte de asegurar que nuestros chicos puedan expresarse en todas las artes y tener acceso, o estar expuestos, a las artes visuales, el teatro, la música y la danza, y que las prueben todas", dijo Fleming. "Porque así sabrán quiénes son".
