    New York Condo Goes for $88 Million

    An eye-opening purchase of a New York condominium is making news. A company reported by Forbes to be working for Russian heiress Ekaterina Rybolovleva has signed an agreement to buy a condo at 15 Central Park West for $88 million. The price sets a record, at about $13,000 per square foot. Current owner and former Citigroup chairman Sandy Weill has stated he will donate the proceeds of the sale to charity.

    The condo is listed at 6,744 square feet, with four bedrooms and 4.5 baths. Two wood burning fireplaces add to the ambiance. Real estate taxes are estimated at $4,958 monthly. The building houses a fitness center and a pool.

    Rybolovleva is 22 and the daughter of Dmitry Rybolovlev, who is listed as No. 93 on the Forbes list of billionaires. Dmitry is in the midst of divorce proceedings with wife Elena, and she has frozen the sale of a 33,000-square-foot Palm Beach, Fla., mansion they bought from Donald Trump in June 2008. Elena is asking she receive half of her husband's assets, as much as $6 billion, but complex ownership issues and asset movements are creating some difficulty, according to the Palm Beach Daily News.

    Dmitry Rybolovlev is one of 99 Russian billionaires on the list from Forbes. The list has 1,140 people on it. The Financial Times quoted the Russian publication Finans in reporting 114 Russian billionaires at the end of 2010.

    Ekaterina Rybolovleva is an accomplished equestrian. Known to her friends as "Kate." she is attending an undisclosed university in the U.S. She intends to use the apartment when she stays in New York City.
