Your period just got a high-tech upgrade

The partnership between technology and menstruation isn’t a new one. With an endless array of apps that track your flow, most women are pretty up to date on what’s going on with their bodies – at least from a digital perspective. The only problem with the current technology, is that it still relies on the user to input data.

But this is changing. Looncup just launched on Kickstarter as “the world’s first ‘smart’ menstrual cup.” Remember the DivaCup? This is its nerdier sister, embedded with a sensor that not only tracks your cycle but also the volume and colour of fluid – colour can indicate health issues.

“Think of it as your monthly period partner, a good friend who drops by when you need her, helping you feel better yourself, and making sure you take care of your body during this special time,” the website claims.

For anyone who’s already tried the DivaCup, this isn’t much of an adjustment. For anyone who hasn’t used one, you might want to watch the instructional video, as it can be tricky to insert.

Aside from the technology perks, the Looncup is also pretty good for the environment being reusable, hypoallergenic and non-toxic. That said, the idea of having a tracking device in your vagina is kind of weird.
