Zynga names John Doerr to its board of directors

Zynga names Doerr to board; Doerr is second director from shareholder Kleiner Perkins

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Online game developer Zynga Inc. said Friday it appointed John Doerr to its board of directors.

Doerr is a general partner of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm that is one of Zynga's biggest shareholders. FactSet says the firm owns 21 million shares, which represents a 3.5-percent stake in the FarmVille maker.

Doerr is the ninth member of Zynga's board.

William Gordon, who has been on the board of directors since July 2008, is also a partner at Kleiner Perkins, which is renowned for its investments in Google, Amazon.com and Twitter, among others.

Gordon is a co-founder and former chief creative officer of Electronic Arts Inc.
