Consumer attitudes about plant-based meats have certainly shifted over the past decade. This change has mostly been embraced by chains and their customers, but over at Cracker Barrel, fans are in absolute shambles over a Facebook post encouraging diners to try the restaurant's new Impossible Sausage menu item.

"Discover new meat frontiers. Experience the out of this world flavor of Impossible™ Sausage Made From Plants next time you Build Your Own Breakfast," read the Facebook post shared by Cracker Barrel on Monday, August 1. Many users didn't take kindly to the suggestion, which has received 2,400 comments and counting since being shared.

One user demanded that Cracker Barrel "stick to the basics"; another informed the restaurant that they had "just lost the customer base." While some customers were clearly distraught over the post, others questioned why a lone menu item was causing so much turmoil.

The thing is, the Impossible Sausage has been on the menu at select Cracker Barrel locations for nearly a year now. A Cracker Barrel blog post from September 2021 stated that the restaurant would soon expand its offerings of Impossible Sausage menu items.

"We want to make sure everybody feels welcome at our table," the blog post read. "That means we’re constantly on the lookout for new ways to make your experience with us even better, so we’re especially excited about this news."

Despite the addition of Impossible Sausage to Cracker Barrel's menu of Southern staples, meat-loving customers can still very much order pork sausage and bacon with their Build Your Own Breakfast during their next visit.
