$1 = 10 miles: Frontier Airlines revamps frequent flyer program

Frontier Airlines' new frequent flyer program is now in effect, and if you're not already a member, you could earn 500 miles just for signing up through Jan. 16.

According to the airline, $1 in spending on Frontier-branded products, including flight tickets, bag and seat selection fees and benefits bundles will equal 10 miles. Status tiers start at 10,000 miles, or $1,000 in spending with the airline.

“We are making the new Frontier Miles program like no other loyalty program in the airline industry when it comes to earning free flights and getting valuable status quickly and for less,” CEO Barry Biffle said in a statement. “If you are someone who travels three or four times a year, you can easily earn a free flight and status with great new benefits in no time.”

The new status tiers for 2024 are:

  • Silver at 10,000 miles

  • Gold at 20,000 miles

  • Platinum at 50,000 miles

  • Diamond at 100,000 miles

At all categories, Frontier elite frequent flyers will be eligible for a free advanced seat assignment, exemption from change and cancellation fees so long as switches are made at least seven days before departure, priority boarding and customer service, and family mileage pooling.

Mileage accrues faster and extra benefits are unlocked as status increases, including free upgrades to premium seats as available for Gold status holders and above, free carry-on bags for Gold status holders and above – a benefit Platinum status holders and higher can share with everyone on their booking.

Platinum status holders and higher can also take advantage of free checked bags, including sporting equipment and free in-cabin pets.

Cruising Altitude: Don't bother with an airline loyalty program if you're this traveler

“We are now rewarding customers for their add-on purchases, including bags, seats and other extras,” Biffle’s statement said. “And if you get or already have the Frontier World Mastercard, you can receive Gold Status for 2024 after spending only $3,000. That means your everyday purchases and holiday gift buying could quickly earn you Gold Status for next year.”
