A 48-year-old man was arrested Friday when he surrendered to police at the end of a more-than daylong standoff that began when he reportedly shot at officers at the U.S. Army Reserve Center in North Lubbock.

Gene Solis was arrested about 9 a.m. Friday, according to a Lubbock police news release. His charges were not immediately provided by police officials.

Solis' arrest stems from a phone call he made to a Lubbock police officer on Nov. 25 and indicated that he was suicidal and homicidal toward another person, officials said.

Attempts over the phone to defuse the situation failed and officers responded to the residence of the other person where they found Solis.

Solis fled in a vehicle and officers chased after him. However, when the vehicle chase was canceled when it threatened public safety, the release states.

Officials said Solis traveled to Hale Center, where he was involved in an another pursuit. Ultimately, Solis traveled to the reserve center about about 3:30 a.m. and entered the building.

As officers watched the center, Solis exited the building and shot at officers and the LPD SWAT was dispatched to the scene. No injuries were reported.

Negotiators with LPD and the FBI worked through the night and into Friday morning until they were able to convince Solis to surrender.
