NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (WJW) — A 22-year-old man is accused of shooting a motorist’s car after an altercation at a gas station, according to police.

Elijah A. Otero, 22, of North Olmsted, is charged with felonious assault in the apparent road rage shooting, which happened just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, according to a news release from North Olmsted police.

A 911 caller told authorities the victim and another man were fighting at a gas station near the intersection of Lorain and Brookpark roads.

The victim told police the fight started after a man — believed to be Otero’s brother — made obscene gestures at him. Both vehicles left the gas station westbound on Lorain Road, according to the news release.

That’s when a North Olmsted police officer heard yelling and two gunshots in the area, which is right across from the police department.

The officer found the victim’s vehicle at a nearby gas station, with bullet holes in the passenger door window and rear passenger-side door, body camera video shows. The driver was not injured and was the only person in the car.

Officers soon found Otero’s vehicle at a home along Porter Road. Court records list Otero’s residence along that street. He was arrested without incident and the handgun believed to be involved in the shooting was recovered.

Otero was set for arraignment on Thursday, Feb. 15, in Rocky River Municipal Court. He may face additional charges once his case is presented to a Cuyahoga County grand jury, according to police.
