Police identify man killed in Hockessin-area pedestrian crash

Police have identified a 69-year-old pedestrian killed in a Hockessin-area crash Wednesday morning.

New Castle County Police said Patrick Regan was the second person struck that day during two separate pedestrian crashes in northern Delaware. A 33-year-old man was critically injured in an earlier crash that occurred in Wilmington.

Regan, according to New Castle County Police, was on Verbena Drive when a 31-year-old Subaru Legacy driver crossed into the opposite lane of travel and struck him about 7:30 p.m.

The Legacy continued traveling in the same direction striking a mailbox before crossing to the opposite side of the roadway and striking a second mailbox. The legacy then struck a tree, where it remained until first responders arrived.

Regan died at the scene and the Legacy driver was hospitalized, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.

In the earlier pedestrian crash, first responders were dispatched to the 3200 block of N. Market St. in Wilmington about 7 a.m., according to city officials.

Fire Department radio traffic indicates the victim, a 33-year-old man, was trapped under a truck. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

Hours after first responders left, a Chevrolet pickup truck belonging to a Maryland construction company could be seen on the back of a tow truck in the road.
