1 dead, 1 injured in 2-vehicle crash near Ormond Beach

A 75-year-old Illinois man was killed Saturday night near Ormond Beach when the car he was riding in overturned after it was hit by another vehicle exiting a gas station, Florida Highway Patrol investigators said.

The resident from Granite City, Illinois died at the scene of the crash, troopers said.

The driver of the overturned car, a 70-year-old man from Breese, Illinois, was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach with serious injuries, said FHP Lt. Tara Crescenzi said.

According to Crescenzi, the Illinois men were northbound on U.S. 1 in a Lincoln MKZ when a Toyota Camry exited a gas station near Benton Street and crossed the northbound lanes of U.S. 1, striking the Lincoln and causing it to flip on its roof, Crescenzi said.

The driver of the Camry, a 33-year-old woman from Sullivan, Missouri, and her passenger, a 29-year-old woman from Cuba, Missouri, were not injured, investigating troopers said.

The crash remians under investigation, Crescenzi said.
