JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One woman is dead and a man is hospitalized after a Tuesday night incident at the Amazon fulfillment center on Jacksonville's Northside, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

This is the second fatal shooting at the Florida Amazon center in the 12000 block of Pecan Park Road this year, the last one on June 29, police said.

Multiple police as well as fire and rescue vehicles were at the center after the shooting, which was reported at about 7:25 p.m., police said. Officers ran into the building immediately and found two people with gunshot wounds, police said. The woman was declared dead on scene as the man was taken to a hospital, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department confirmed.

Lt. J.D. Stronko said the man and woman "appeared to be" employees at Amazon, and early indications are that they were in some sort of relationship.

"This does not appear to be any type of active shooter incident. This does not appear to be any type of workplace violence," Stronko said. "As you would expect in a facility of this size and operation, there were multiple witnesses to this incident."

Amazon officials said the building was immediately evacuated when the shooting began.

“This is a terrible tragedy," spokeswoman Lisa Levandowski said. "Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and all those who have been impacted by this incident. We are working closely with the sheriff as they investigate.”

A weapon was recovered at the scene, while the condition of the injured man was unknown, police said. Fire officials said they did transport a victim at about 7:45 p.m.

Video from media outlets as well as Twitter posts from people near the reported shooting indicated multiple police vehicles and ambulances near the center.

The Amazon fulfillment center was also the scene of violence three months ago on June 29, when a 20-year-old man applying for a job was fatally shot and two others were injured in what the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office described as an ambush.

The 855,000-square-foot center began operations in 2017 and held its grand opening officially in April 2018.
