1 dead, 1 seriously injured in Boone County car crash

BOONE COUNTY — One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in rural Boone County, sheriff’s police said.

The preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle traveling south on Stone Quarry Road near Flora Church Road left the roadway, struck an embankment and rolled, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, described as a man in his late 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

A passenger was taken by ambulance to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center and is in critical condition.

The crash is being investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and by the Boone County Coroner’s Office.
