A 64-year-old was discovered dead in the basement of a Lawndale neighborhood residence after a fire broke out Saturday morning, according to Chicago police.
The Chicago Fire Department extinguished the fire in a building in the 1600 block of South Homan Avenue shortly before 1:30 a.m.. where fire fighters found a man unresponsive in the basement, police said.
Police said at least four people have been displaced due to the fire.
Police also said the origin of the fire was not immediately known, but the blaze appears to be accidental. The victim has not yet been identified.
Officials were investigating. police said.
