A man died and another person was hurt after the tire blew on a pickup truck’s trailer while it was driving in north Charlotte, authorities confirmed.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 11 a.m. Monday on Interstate 85 near Graham Street. Traffic in the northbound lanes slowed, creating a backup at least a mile long at 11:30 a.m.

MEDIC said one person died and a second was hurt. That second person’s injuries aren’t serious and they’re expected to recover, MEDIC said.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said it was responding to the crash. Troopers said they believe a pickup truck, which was pulling a trailer, was driving north on I-85 when the left front tire of the trailer blew out. That caused the truck to run off the road and hit the barrier wall twice, troopers said.

Investigators identified the person who died as Earnest Orlando White, 41, of Charlotte.
