1 dead, another injured after Friday morning shed fire in Mesa

A shed fire in Mesa early Friday morning resulted in one man being killed and another injured, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department.

It was 12.33 a.m. when Maricopa County deputies responded to a fire in the area of E. 1st Avenue and S. 82nd Way in Mesa. Deputies said the small shed fire, located at the rear of a residence, was likely caused by the space heaters plugged into the house via extension cord.

According to MCSO, one adult male was pulled from the shed by a resident and flown to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The resident, who pulled out the man from the shed, sustained non-life-threatening burns. Rural Metro Fire responded and extinguished the fire before it spread to the main house.
