Construction worker dead after being buried alive when Cobb home foundation collapses, officials say

A man is dead after being buried alive while working on a Smyrna home Friday afternoon.

Officials said crews responded to a report of a person trapped in a trench on Wells Drive.

Smyrna fire officials told Channel 2′s Michael Seiden that a man was found completely buried in the trench around 1 p.m. Friday.

Authorities confirmed the victim was dead. His identity has not been released.

They say the foundation and wall of the home collapsed onto the man, trapping him.

Neighbors told Seiden the homeowner had been getting some work down on the home.

Seiden learned that OSHA is conducting an investigation.
