Man killed in West 117th Street crash identified

LINNDALE, Ohio (WJW) — A 39-year-old Cleveland man died in a crash involving a semi truck and car in Linndale on Monday morning.

The crash happened just after 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of West 117th Street and Bellaire Road, according to a Monday news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, whose troopers were at the scene Monday.

The car was heading east on Bellaire Road. As it neared the intersection of West 117th Street, its driver, identified as 39-year-old Michael S. Yearout of Cleveland, failed to stop at the red light and struck the trailer of the semi truck, which had already entered the intersection, according to the release.

It appears the car got wedged underneath the semi truck, FOX 8 News previously reported.

Yearout was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

The driver of the truck, a 48-year-old Cleveland man, did not report any injuries, according to the release.

Troopers don’t know if impairment is suspected in the crash.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Linndale and Cleveland police and Cleveland firefighters. Bellaire Avenue was closed to southbound traffic at West 117th Street following the crash.

This crash remains under investigation.
