1 dead in fiery, 4-vehicle crash on Interstate 264 in Louisville

A person died Wednesday night on Interstate 264 near Poplar Level road in a collision involving three over vehicles that caused their car to catch fire, Louisville Metro Police said.

Sixth Division officers responded to a call about the crash after 5:40 p.m. on I-264 westbound, after the Poplar Level Road overpass, LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis said. The preliminary report indicated the victim was driving west on the Watterson Expressway at the 13.2 mile marker and had to stop abruptly because of traffic.

The sudden stop prompted other vehicles to crash into it, Ellis said. The impact caused the first vehicle to catch fire.

Emergency medical services and firefighters responded and pronounced the victim dead. The victim has not been identified.

The other drivers were not injured in the collision.
