BLUFFDALE, Utah (ABC4) — One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Bluffdale Wednesday morning, according to the Saratoga Springs Police Department.

Police said the 44-year-old was confirmed dead after being shot. No other injuries have been reported.

Orem man arrested twice in 2 days on drugs, identity theft, stolen vehicle accusations

At approximately 8:30 a.m., the Bluffdale Fire Department was dispatched on a medical call for the man, according to Andrew Burton, Chief of Police for Saratoga Springs Police Department. The man’s mother allegedly made the call for her son, who Burton said was experiencing a medical emergency.

The man was reportedly in the basement of the home near South Castle Valley Drive. When the fire department arrived, the man “immediately produced a firearm,” according to Burton, and pointed it at the paramedics and officers.

“Shots were fired. The suspect was hit,” Burton said.

Paramedics then tended to the man and transported him to the Riverton Hospital Emergency Room, where he later died.

According to Burton, it is not very often the fire department is present in an officer-involved shooting.

“I think it illustrates that law enforcement has to be prepared at any moment. You never know what is going to pop up,” he said.
