1 dead, several injured in overnight shootings across Indianapolis

Indianapolis police are investigating the shooting death of a man who was found inside a vehicle in the Fountain Square neighborhood.

Police were called to Woodlawn and Virginia avenues just before midnight Saturday. The victim later died at a hospital. Preliminary investigation showed the man was shot about a mile away, at East Raymond and Shelby streets, just east of Garfield Park on the south side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

This is one of multiple shootings that happened overnight across the city less than 24 hours after four were fatally shot in two separate shootings.

A person was in critical condition earlier Saturday evening, just after 6:30 p.m., following what police described as a self-inflicted and accidental shooting on the northwest side.

Two victims showed up with gunshot wounds at IU Health Methodist Hospital about 9 p.m. Police said the two were shot in the 3700 block of Ruskin Place, just off 38th Street near the Mapleton Fall Creek neighborhood. The victims are in stable condition.

One victim is in critical condition after a shooting about 11 p.m. at Rockville Road and North Lynhurst Drive on the west side. Another is in stable condition after a shooting around 1 a.m. Sunday in Broad Ripple, near Guilford Avenue, on the north side.

Just before 4 p.m. Sunday, a person walked into Community Hospital North with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police said the shooting was accidental, and the person is conscious.
