2 injured, detained in shooting at American Deli on Shelby Drive

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people were injured and detained by police following a shooting at American Deli Tuesday night.

According to Memphis Police, officers responded to a shooting in the 7000 block of E. Shelby Drive a little before 9:30 p.m.

A witness told police that her brother went into to restaurant to purchase food when two men approached him.  Suddenly there was an exchange of gunfire.

Arrest made in Wynne, AR mass shooting

The 18-year-old victim was shot in his upper back and right leg. He was taken to Regional One in critical condition. MPD says after further investigation, he is also a suspect in the incident.

Police say they found the injured teen in possession of a pistol with an extended magazine.

A 21-year-old, who police say was shot, arrived at the hospital by private vehicle and is also a suspect.

The restaurant’s owner says although the shooting happened outside the business, they too are dealing with tough consequences.

“It happened in the parking lot, outside the business,” the owner said. “The police came right after the incident, not even 10 minutes after the incident happened. I’m okay, there were no innocent bystanders that were injured so God Bless.”

MPD says the whole incident was caught on camera.

So far, there have not been any reported charges filed. At last check, both were still hospitalized and said to be in fair condition.
