1 injured in Litchfield fire truck crash

BUTLER TWP — A pickup that did not yield to lights and siren struck a Litchfield fire truck on its way to a grass fire on Butler Road at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.

A firefighter suffered head lacerations as the truck went into a ditch and struck a power pole. Fire equipment was dumped off the truck, according to a crash report.

LifeCare transported Roberts to Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment.

According to the Branch County Sheriff’s Department, the northbound 2017 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by a 55-year-old Hillsdale resident did not stop for the westbound fire truck. The crash is under investigation.

The crash occurred at the intersection where Clarendon makes a jog, and Butler Road begins.

Branch County Sheriff deputies and Michigan State Police responded to the scene. 

The Litchfield 1990 International fire truck sustained damage. Bud’s Wrecker towed the fire truck back to Litchfield.

Quincy Fire responded to the grass fire at 1035 Butler Road, requesting mutual aid from the Coldwater Township tanker and Litchfield.

According to the sheriff’s department, Consumers Energy sent a crew to repair the power pole.
