Trespassing call leads to officer-involved shooting in West El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man is in custody and another man was transported to a local hospital after a trespassing call led to an officer-involved shooting Tuesday morning, Feb. 20 in West El Paso, the El Paso Police Department said.

Police spokesperson Judy Oviedo said at around 3 a.m., officers responded to a trespass-in-progress call at the 7200 block of Royal Arms.

When officers arrived, they located two men in their early 20s who entered a property illegally, Oviedo said.

Oviedo said at some point during the incident, one of the officers used his weapon, striking one of the suspects.

That suspect was transported to a local hospital and his condition is currently unknown. However, emergency dispatch says he suffered potentially life-threatening injuries.

The other suspect is currently in custody.

Oviedo also said they do not believe the suspects shot at the officer. However, the incident is still being investigated by the Crimes Against Persons Unit.

Oviedo said the area will be closed from four to six hours.
