1 injured in shooting at apartment complex on 8th Avenue South

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man was injured after being shot outside an apartment complex in the Melrose neighborhood of Nashville, near Berry Hill.

Officers at the scene told News 2 the shooting happened near the intersection of 8th Avenue South and Craighead Street, but in an email the following morning, a Metro Nashville Police Department spokesperson said it happened at the intersection of 8th Avenue South and Hillview Heights.

According to authorities, while a 48-year-old man was on his way home, he stopped at a liquor store in the 2400 block of Franklin Pike. After making his purchase, the man started walking through the parking lot when a dark sedan reportedly pulled up next to him.

The driver said something, but the victim had his headphones on, so he didn’t hear it, officials reported. Then, the driver allegedly pulled out a pistol, so victim ran to a nearby apartment complex.

According to police, one of the passengers in the car followed the victim on foot, fired at him, and ran back to the car.

Authorities said the victim had wounds to his hand and hip, so he was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are trying to determine if the victim and suspect(s) knew each other. As of this writing, nobody has been taken into custody.
