1 killed, 1 flown to hospital after crash into stopped car on I-70 Wednesday night

Jul. 22—One person was killed Wednesday night in a crash on Interstate 70 near Enon involving multiple vehicles.

Jacob Alan Lewis, 21, of Bellefontaine, died at the scene.

At around 7:23 p.m. Wednesday evening, Lewis in a 2001 Ford Mustang was stopped in the center lane on I-70 near mile marker 46, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol in a release. Another man, Alexander James Lindstrom, 21, of Bellefontaine, was in the passenger seat.

Meanwhile, a 2015 Freightliner tow truck was driving westbound on the highway and swerved to avoid the Mustang, the release said. However, a 2014 Honda van driving behind the truck did crash into the Mustang from behind, pushing it into the tow truck.

Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, the OSHP said.

CareFlight flew Lindstrom from the scene to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash shut down the highway behind the I-70 W/state Route 4 South split for about three hours as the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Springfield Post investigated. Traffic backed up well past the Dayton-Springfield Road overpass.

The highway patrol was assisted at the scene by the Clark County Sheriff's Department, Mad River Township Fire and EMS, Bethel Township Fire and EMS, Springfield Township Fire and EMS, Huber Heights Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, CareFlight and MedFlight.
