1 killed in fiery, wrong-way crash on Loop 202 in south Phoenix, eastbound lanes closed

A deadly wrong-way crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle caused road closures Monday morning off the eastbound lanes of Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway near 32nd Street in south Phoenix.

The person driving the wrong-way vehicle died, officials said.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the truck was struck by a passenger vehicle that was going the wrong way, resulting in the semi-truck catching fire.

As of 2:30 p.m. Monday, the freeway was reopened, however, the two right lanes remained blocked, as noted by a post to ADOT's X account.
