An off-duty Chicago police officer was killed after Arlington Heights police said the SUV he was driving left the roadway and crashed through three yards Monday morning.
- This is the breaking news situation that we're talking about over Arlington Heights, and that's where Chopper 7 HD is, the intersection of Kirchoff and Wilke. This was a deadly crash that happened during the overnight hours. Car traveling northbound on Wilke at a very high rate of speed lost control and hit a power pole at the intersection of Kirchoff.
It went airborne and ended up traveling through three different backyards, hit a tree, and then ended up in the backyard of one of these homes here, as you can see, on Reuter Street-- South Reuter Drive. So there is an ongoing investigation. It was a 29-year-old male driver who was pronounced dead at Lutheran General Hospital. There was a passenger in the car who, unbelievably, walked away with no injuries. But that intersection is going to be blocked until that investigation can be--
