1 man dead, another hospitalized after shooting Monday at North Lakeland apartment complex

One man was killed and another wounded in a shooting at Providence Reserve Apartments off Providence Road in North Lakeland on Monday.

Lakeland police officers were dispatched at 5:26 p.m. to reports of a shooting at the apartment complex and found two men with gunshot wounds near an outdoor courtyard. Both men, one 38 years old and the other 25, were taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center in critical condition. The 38-year-old died at the hospital, police said.

Witnesses told detectives that fights had broken out in the courtyard before the shooting and the suspect fled in a vehicle. Police said they have not found the suspect as of Tuesday morning.
