1 man dead in west Phoenix residential shooting

Phoenix police investigated a shooting that left a man dead Friday in the area near 36th and Missouri avenues.

Just after 2 p.m. Friday, Phoenix police officers responded to a shooting near the 3600 block of West Missouri Avenue in a residential track just outside of Grand Canyon University.

When officers arrived, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was identified as 33-year-old Alexis Villegas. He was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Preliminary information indicated that Villegas was involved in a fight with multiple men, during which he was shot multiple times, according to Phoenix police.

Information about what led up to the shooting is still under investigation, but Phoenix police were searching for two suspects.
